We are BOB COLEMAN, DOUG LAING, ROB SHORTLAND, STUART SINGER & JIM WEIR.
On a serious note, we have been inspired by the untimely death of Jim's nephew's son, Callum - five years old, from a cancer that affects only a few hundred people and therefore doesn't receive the same support of other cancers.
The BONE CANCER RESEARCH TRUST is the main charity who raise funds for research and also awareness of bone tumours in children. Please support our efforts on their behalf. |
From Jim:
Callum was my nephew's wee boy. At the age of 6 mths he had a bad night. His mum and dad noted that his elbow was swollen. He ended up being seen at the sick children's hospital in Edinburgh and a diagnosis of a Ewing's Tumour was made - a rare sarcoma in the bone. The tumour was removed along with part of his humerus and then went on to chemo and radiotherapy. This went on for around two years. At the age of four he however was found to have a recurrence, this time in his ribs. He had surgery then more chemo and radiotherapy. In May 2011 he again was found to have a further recurrence in his chest and as far as treatment went he obviously had not responded to chemo etc and the only treatment available was palliative chemo. He died last August. Ewing's is a rare cancer but Callum's was very unusual as it typically happens when boys develop during puberty. The BCRT is the main charity who raise funds for research and also awareness of bone tumours in children. |
